Production Update

Today we started filming the opening scene of our music video and our tracking shots. Before this point we have encountered some problems which we dealt with. This includes us changing our female performer. This is due to our primary female performer Jaymee having commitment issues. However, our new female performer still fits into the conventions of female in a hip hop/ r'n'b music video. This far we have also filmed parts of the performing scenes using tricast but we still need to film more to ensure that we have the best footage to choose from.

Tinie Tempah

2006- First Song- Wifey

This is Tinie Tempah's first single and video. This music video was only broadcasted on the english music channel, Channel U which is station that mainly plays english grime and R'n'B singles. This channel also has a very niche audience. Here we can see is quite low budget video through many elements of it. First of all, there are various shots of simplistic locations such as the high street, working class residential areas and random streets which look realistic and are not glamourised or enhanced in any way. Moreover, the costume within the music video looks very authentic in conveying a representation of youth. The costume Tinie Tempah is wearing at the beginning of the music video is very straight foward as he wears just a jumper, jeans and trainers which seem like clothing that male teenagers would casually wear. Lastly, the picture quality also gives us a hint that the music video had a low budget. The music video is mainly narrative based with slight performance shots. I felt that they made it mainly narrative based not only because the song itself tells a story but to make the music video more interesting and obtain the attention of audience. If they had used mainly performance shots they would have to make sure that it is constantly interesting which may acquire a higher budget for instance using tricaster or special effects which may be beyond the budget for the music video. This music video was produced before Tinie Tempah was signed to any record label.

2008- Tears

The music video is later in Tinie Tempah's career, two years after he released his first single. This music video was still aired on the same music channel-Channel U and was done when he still was unsigned. This music video is more narrative based with elements of performance which I feel is for the same reason as when the first music video was created (due to the low budget). Elements of the music video such as the settings of it still correlate to his last music video and there seems to be not much improve to the amount given to create the music video.

DECEMBER 2009- Pass Out ft Labrinth

At this point Tinie Tempah just signed onto Parlophone records, a subsidiary of EMI. This was Tinie Tempah’s first song that was exhibited to a mass audience through music channels like MTV base/hits/dance, Kiss and The Box. His sound and image has clearly changed. His sound has become more electro with rap whilst his style is more enhanced and current as he is wearing a leather jacket with an exaggerated hood and jeans that are more fitted. This slightly challenges conventions of the Rap genre. This music video is purely performance based which is different from his previous videos which were a mixture of performance and narrative. It is apparent that this video has a higher budget due to the Special effects used in this music which must have entailed using a Green Screen and the fact the it relies upon the performance shots to retain the audience's interest. There are more elements to this music video. There are a range of shots, range in duration to correlate with the pace of the song and there are links between the text and the song as the lyrics of the sound appears in some part of the music video.

2010-
Frisky ft Labrinith

Written in the Stars ft Eric Tunner

Swedish House Mafia ft Tinie Tempah-Miami 2 Ibiza

Game Over Remix

Invincilbe ft Kelly Rowland
With the single ‘Pass Out’ Tinie Tempah obtained the no.1 position on the UK Singles Charts which has had an obvious effect on his music videos. His music videos have become more visually interesting through different techniques such as special effects, background dancing and famous collerbations such as Kelly Rowland. I feel that his music videos have gotten better and received a higher budget due to the record label Parlophone having an increased confidence in Tinie Tempah’s ability to succeed and knowing that they would receive a return for making the music video through sales. His video mainly have still been performance based.

2011
- Wonderman ft Ellie Goulding

Here is his lasts music video which is quite different from the over music videos that he has released as this music video is narrative based.
Themes incorporated in the music video and visual codes

Post-Modernism will be shown in our music video through a movie style opening. Also style over content which is a convention of post-modernist music videos would be shown through the extra effects which will be incorporated in the music video such as stop motion and black and white effects.
Feminism/Male gaze would be incorporated in our music video through the attractive female character in this music video who is the sexual interest of the male character in this video.
Love is shown through the attraction between the male and female character in this music video and will be reinforced by the fact that the female character would always wear red which has connotations of lust and passion. Love is futher represented in the music video through some of the iconic locations we use such as the London Eye and the South Bank area.
